16-19 Study Programmes
The Howard Sixth Form is funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and as such we meet the requirement for our 16 to 19-year olds to be delivered a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals.
• Every study programme has a core aim. For our students, this will be either the study of academic or applied qualifications.
• Young people who do not hold a GCSE grade 4 in maths and/or English are required to continue these subjects as part of their study programme.
• All study programmes include work experience and non-qualification activities which complement the other elements of the programme and support the student to progress to further or higher education or to employment. Students are expected be involved in school community activities, such as supporting younger students for example through reading schemes, and are also encouraged to extend their learning through super-curricular activities such as wider reading or Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
• Where additional 16-19 tuition funding is available, this will be used for supporting small groups of students, for example with study skills support, revision materials or tutoring.
