Course Description:

 

This A level gives you the opportunity to not only develop your language skills to a high level, but also the chance to discover more about the Francophone world, its history, culture, and societal changes.  You will also study film and literature within the course to give you a deeper understanding of the language.

Course Content:

Paper 1: Comprehension – Listening, Reading & Translation

Topic areas: Society, political and artistic culture, immigration and multiculturalisation, history of occupation and resistance. 

Paper 2: Writing – Translation and Essay

Critical essay on a prescribed film and literary text plus a short translation exercise

Paper 3: Speaking

Two discussions with stimulus material. Internally conducted and externally assessed.

During the course students may have the opportunity of work experience where their language is spoken. Occasional trips to the cinema and the theatre are also part of the Sixth Form experience.

Assessment Format

Paper 1: (Comprehension) 40%

Paper 2: (Writing) 30%

Paper 3: (Speaking) 30%
