Psychology
Our Curriculum Intent
Psychology at the Howard aims to ‘bring out the best’ by creating understanding and empathetic individuals who have explored a range of influences on human behaviour and conditions.
Students will explore a broad range of topics from Social Influence to Psychopathology and Biopsychology. They will also be encouraged to critically evaluate psychological evidence and research based on competing perspectives about the causes of behaviour and also question the scientific, methodological or ethical basis of psychological research or theories.
Students will learn about past theories and ideas as well as more current research to understand how the field of psychology has changed over time to become more scientific. Students will compare and contrast studies/research and also approaches (including social learning, cognitive and biological) to enable them to draw more critical conclusions.
Students will develop a keen awareness of the importance of research methods and processes within psychology and how effective methodology provides greater validity and reliability to findings giving research greater value. They will also be able to analyse and evaluate the strength of theories or research based on the quality of the research processes.
