Music
Our Curriculum Intent
The music department achieve the Howard’s curriculum intent by: engaging with a range of styles of music from throughout history and across the world. We will create spaces for students to develop their resilience through challenging and creative practical work and give students a place where they can develop their confidence and ability to think creatively. Our ambition is to give students the knowledge and skills to have a musical life beyond school.

The National Curriculum Purpose of Study for Music is as follows:
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A highquality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
