 Choosing optional subjects

How to use SIMS Options Online

What support will students have to choose their optional subjects this year?

The restrictions necessary due to the global Covid-19 pandemic prevent us from holding our on-site Key Stage 4 curriculum information evening as we would usually.  The help students and parents understand what they need to do we are providing

  • a live event to communicate our curriculum aims and an overview of the process for choosing optional subjects
  • a curriculum e-booklet with all course information
  • an opportunity for preliminary conversations about KS4 courses with subject teachers as part of the Progress and Pathways Evening on Thursday 7 January
  • a Learning4Life programme to support students in choosing their optional subjects
  • a video describing how optional subjects should be chosen and how to use SIMS Options Online (above)
  • qualification taster lessons for students in normal timetabled lessons in 11-15 January, these include an opportunity for students to ask any questions they have about the courses
  • a dedicated email address for any queries – - that will be operational throughout January

How can I support my child?

We would greatly appreciate parents/carers supporting students by

  • reading the curriculum e-booklet together with your child and discussing initial thoughts at home
  • noting any questions to be asked at the Progress & Pathways Evening (7 January) or in the taster lessons the following week
  • asking questions about the courses they might find interesting and which they need for their next steps (activities in the Learning4Life programme will support this too)
