ART PHOTOGRAPHY

The course provides opportunities to develop a broad foundation of critical, practical and theoretical skills that offers students a holistic understanding of a range of practices and contexts in the visual arts, crafts and design fields.

Students might engage with early light based images and rudimentary technology, such as a pinhole camera, as well as the most contemporary, GoPro, which will include the use of digital cameras, video camcorders, photocopiers, scanners and mobile phones.  They may also work exclusively with film based or digital technology or with both.  Outcomes can be screen or print based, comprise still or moving images and might be discrete to the subject area or combined with other art forms.

The course includes purposeful use of drawing to record information and may take the form of:

  • sketches
  • analytical observational studies
  • storyboards
  • thumbnail sketches
  • layouts
  • roughs
  • experimental or expressive studies
  • 2 or 3D modelling
  • detailed designs or elevations

 

Assessment Format 

Component 1: Personal Investigation – 60% of qualification, internally assessed, externally moderated.

Component 2: Externally Set Assignment – 40% of qualification, internally assessed, externally moderated.

Course Entry Requirements:

GCSE grade 5  in Art and Design, Fine Art ,Textile Design, Media Studies or DT Graphics
